Boman Irani was born on December 2, 1959, into a Parsi family in Mumbai. Before stepping in front of the camera, he spent over a decade mastering the art of hospitality—working his way up from waiter to training manager with the Taj Group of Hotels—while nurturing a passion for photography. His early years also saw him immerse himself in theatre, where he honed his craft in plays that ranged from dark comedies to intense dramas. This blend of real-world experience and stage discipline laid a unique foundation for the versatility he would soon bring to Indian cinema.
His breakout role came in 2003 with “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.,” where his portrayal of the strict yet endearing Dr. Asthana won hearts and earned him widespread acclaim. Since then, Irani has delivered memorable performances in films like “3 Idiots,” “Don 2,” “Lage Raho Munna Bhai,” and “PK,” seamlessly shifting between comic turns, villainous shades, and heartfelt characters. A three-time Filmfare Award winner, he’s also ventured into voice work, hosting, and mentoring aspiring actors. Off-screen, Boman remains committed to wildlife photography, charitable causes, and supporting arts education, reflecting the same warmth and curiosity that first endeared him to audiences.
